Become a CASA

The lawyers know the statutes; the social workers the regulations. But the CASA volunteer is assigned to know the child, one child at a time.” Anna Quindlen, author.

A CASA volunteer speaks on behalf of each child’s best interests. It is important, challenging work.

For this reason, we take some time to get to know potential volunteers, and for them to evaluate the program.  If you are interested, please contact us. We’ll be glad to explain the role of a CASA and discuss our training program.  You may also request our brochure, in English and Spanish, that provides more information about being a CASA.

If you want to become a CASA, you will:

  • Chat with program staff about CASA work
  • Complete the written application and submit three or more references
  • Come in for a formal interview with CASA's Program Director and the Coordinator of Volunteers
  • Authorize a criminal background check including submitting fingerprints
  • Authorize child protective services check and sex offender registry check

You will receive training to familiarize you with the needs of children who have been abused or neglected, the CASA's role and the court and child welfare systems.  Upon completion of training, you will be sworn in by the presiding Yamhill County Juvenile Court judge.

To begin the process of becoming a CASA, please download an application form or contact us by e-mail or phone.

You’ll be on your way to making a difference in the life of a child!
